A private health insurance plan contracted by the state of Massachusetts to provide care for 30,000 legal immigrants is falling short, which may hold an important lesson as the nation begins to implement healthcare reform, according to three primary care physicians.
"Policymakers, in Massachusetts and nationally, should reassess the role of profit-driven insurers in the provision of safety-net care," wrote Ruth Hertzman-Miller, MD, MPH, Malgorzata Dawiskiba, MD, and Cassie Frank, MD, in a letter to the editor published in the Aug. 5 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. |
