I am co-chair of the Health Care Justice Task Force of the First Universalist Church of Denver.
"The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations affirms the worth and dignity of every individual, and thus affirms access to quality healthcare as a basic human right. It is the responsibility of the public--through government--to meet this and other basic human needs in a just, equitable, and compassionate manner. In particular, the Association supports the following:
Equitable access, cultural sensitivity, and basic treatment for all people, regardless of age, economic, racial, geographic, immigration, or other status, to affordable, quality healthcare, through a national, single-payer plan.

Here is the list from George: | Quote: | I have a list of web sites that are from the major denominations. Some have a direct link to their health care policy and with others you just have to navigate through the site. However, all do support major reform and a universal program. Not all mention single payer but none would be against it. Here they are:
United Methodist: www.umc-gbcs.org/healthcare
Episcopal Church: www.ecusa.anglican.org
Evangelical Lutheran Church: www.elca.org
Presbyterian: www.pcusa.org/peacemaking
American Baptist Church: www.abc-usa.org
United Church of Christ: www.ucc.org/jwm
I will continue to research this and as I come up with more, I will pass them along.
Blessings and thank you for your labors.
George
Rev. George E. Dunn
"Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane." (Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)

Here is a website that I found for the
Evangelical Lutheran Church - click here | Quote: | Statements viewing access to adequate health care as issues of faith and justice, were issued by assemblies of the Lutheran Church in America in 1978 and the American Lutheran Church in 1982. A 1989 ELCA church wide assembly reaffirmed those decisions:
"the positions of the predecessor church bodies in favor of access to quality health care for everyone, regardless of income, urging Congress, and encouraging members and congregations to work toward passage of appropriate national health care legislation." |
