Single Payer added to the 2006 Platform of the Democratic Party

The Democratic Party convention held in Sacramento a few weeks ago, marked the first time in California's history that a statewide political party has adopted a plank in its platform supporting a single payer health care system. The language in the platform reads: "California should lead the nation in providing comprehensive quality health care to all our people by transitioning to a single-payer public health care system."
